In these cases, Dr. Lubitz, in coordination with your family physician, will arrange the necessary referral to address your skin condition as quickly and effectively as possible.

A dermatologist is the foremost medical specialist trained to provide accurate diagnoses and the most advanced treatment options for all diseases and conditions of the skin. If you have any significant concerns about your skin, a dermatologist is the expert you should turn to.

  • Enscape_2024-12-16-03-26-32.png

A dermatologist is a Medical Doctor who has completed at least five years of advanced medical training after medical school to become a certified specialist in dermatology. This rigorous training equips dermatologists with the clinical expertise, technical skills, and in-depth knowledge required to deliver the best possible care for all skin-related conditions.

During their five-year residency, dermatologists receive focused training in the following areas:

    1. In-depth knowledge of the skin and its appendages including nails, hair, and glands, as well as mucous membranes in both healthy and diseased states

    2. Developing comprehensive, science-based diagnoses and treatment plans for skin disorders, including systemic and infectious conditions with skin manifestations

    3. Applying research methods, data analysis, and informed diagnosis that considers gender, cultural, and ethnic influences

    4. Counselling patients on skin disease prevention, risk factors, genetic causes, and environmental concerns

    5. Upholding a professional standard of care in all aspects of patient interaction

    6. Critically evaluating current dermatological literature to continually improve diagnosis, investigation, and management of skin conditions

  • Enscape_2024-12-16-03-26-32.png

Your dermatologist has advanced knowledge and competence in a wide range of procedures and disciplines, including dermatologic surgery (anesthesia, electrosurgery, cryosurgery, nail surgery, biopsy, and excisional surgery), laser surgery, allergy and immunology procedures, clinical pathology, parasitology, dermatopathology, topical and systemic pharmacotherapy, microbiology, and cosmetic surgery.

This breadth of training makes dermatologists uniquely qualified to diagnose and treat the full spectrum of dermatologic conditions. Dermatologists are also experts in the care of healthy skin and in the prevention of skin diseases and skin cancers.

  • Enscape_2024-12-16-03-26-32.png

Dermatologists in Canada who have completed their advanced specialty training are designated as Fellows of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC). This credential is a recognized mark of excellence in specialist medical care.

The Royal College fulfills the following functions: prescribing requirements for specialty education across 60 areas of medicine, surgery, and laboratory medicine; accrediting specialty residency programs; assessing the quality of residents' education; conducting certifying examinations; maintaining high standards of specialist care through its Maintenance of Certification Program; and promoting ethical and professional conduct among its members.
